I break down my teaching philosophy into two general areas: the expressive and the technical. First and foremost, the student learns to play piano in order to express themselves and to be able to communicate in their own unique voice. Therefore I feel it imperative that the student be able to think independently and ultimately gain the ability to analyze music on their own. The student should not learn to play a work of music as others might play it, but instead how they feel it inside of themselves. I strive to spark the imagination of the student in their work and to connect it with their own life's experience.

About MeCurrently a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, Elena teaches and performs as both a concert recitalist and collaborative pianist with various artists throughout the Bay Area. She is just completed her Masters degree in Collaborative Piano at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, studying with Timothy Bach. She is also active in learning new languages, where she is fluent in English, German, Russian and Ukrainian.
Elena is a passionate and devoted advocate of chamber music. From early childhood she began playing chamber music under the tutelage of her mother, also a pianist, and has remained devoted to chamber music throughout her life. In 2006, she helped found 'AlpenKammerMusik - Chamber Music In the Alps', a concert series and amateur chamber music festival in Austria, and serves as its co-director. She also serves as manager of Camerata Pangaea, a dynamic new chamber ensemble of up-and-coming soloists from around the world that are in residence at AlpenKammerMusik.
Lesson DetailsAt the same time, the student must follow a strict technical training in order to obtain the ability to play freely and expressively. I work at molding the student's physical control of the instrument in order to develop a sensitivity for the variety of different touches that each musical style requires. The student should develop as much of a natural feel to their playing as possible, and that can only be achieved through a regimen of etudes, scales and pieces of music appropriate to their level of playing.
SpecialtiesBeginning from the age of 3, I use a unique and interesting method that has been developed by a Japanese piano instructor over 30 years ago and has been taught in Europe and Japan with great success. From my own experience I find this method the most effective and most fun of all the methods that are on the market. You can find out more about it here:
